Frequently Asked Questions
Only the outside pane of my double pane window is broken, why do you have to replace both panes?Insulated Units are sealed together with a butyl compound that holds each pane to the spacer. Removing the glass from the spacer is not economical. Instead, it is more cost efficient and feasible to build a new insulated unit.
Should I glue or clip my mirror?
The only situation where we require a customer to glue a mirror is when there is a cutout for an outlet or another electrical fixture. Every job is unique and deserves special consideration. The decision is typically based on aesthetics rather than physical capability. We are always open to suggestions!
The silvering on my mirror is peeling off, can you fix it?
There is a process by which silvering can be repaired, but the cost is astronomical, and we would much rather just provide a new mirror. Often it is less expensive that way.
What thickness of glass should I use to protect my tabletops?
The standard for tabletops is 1/4" glass. The only situation that warrants thicker material would be if the tabletop glass is not supported uniformly, creating a weight concern. Very few, if any, circumstances require or allow for thinner glass.
When do I need safety glass?
As with any construction project, we are governed by residential and commercial building code. Broadly spoken, we are required to use safety glass in any door application and any application which places window glass within 16" of the ground. Obviously there is a laundry list of rules, but it's our job to know all of them, right?
How thick do my shelves have to be?
Shelf thickness depends solely on the weight to be placed on them. Shelves can range from 1/8" to 3/8" (typically), but we will need to talk about it when you place the order.
What is standard glass?
We don't know, but if you find out, let us know.
